These terms explain how we work, what you can expect from us and what we need from you. We've tried to keep them in plain English. Please read them before you book or order.
The main points
We rebuild engines that are brought to us. We don't remove engines from cars or refit them.
We'll always quote you before doing any work you haven't already agreed to.
Your engine is released once the invoice is paid and the handover is signed.
The warranty depends on following the run-in and oil change rules, and is void if the ECU is remapped.
Autobits is the trading name of Andrew Cullen Motors Limited, a company registered in Ireland (Company No. 771703), of Beech Avenue, Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow, W91 V2R9. In these terms "we", "us" and "our" mean Autobits, and "you" means the person or business that books a job or places an order with us.
These terms apply to every engine rebuild, parts order, online shop order and remapping job we take on. Our Engine Rebuild Warranty and Privacy Policy form part of these terms.
If you're a consumer
If you're buying for personal use rather than for a business, you have rights under Irish law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2022. These include the right to services carried out with reasonable care and skill, and goods that are of acceptable quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing in these terms takes away or limits those rights. Our warranty is in addition to them.
If you're a business
If you're a garage, dealer or other business, the consumer protections above don't apply in the same way. Our responsibilities to you are as set out in these terms and the warranty.
We specialise in Volkswagen Group engines (VW, Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Cupra). We offer:
Engine rebuilds on engines delivered to us, removed from the vehicle.
Rebuilt, exchange and used engines, engine parts and clutches through our online shop.
ECU remapping.
We don't remove engines from vehicles or refit them, and we don't carry out general diagnostic work, servicing or other repairs. Any fitting, diagnosis or other work on the vehicle has to be done by your own mechanic or garage.
Any price we give before we've stripped the engine is an estimate, based on the information you've given us and our experience of that engine.
The base rebuild price covers the standard internal parts listed in the Engine Rebuild Process you accept when booking (such as rings, bearings, gaskets and seals) and the labour to strip, inspect, rebuild and test the engine.
Once the engine is stripped we sometimes find more damage, such as a cracked block, a worn crankshaft or camshaft, or a damaged cylinder head. If that happens, we'll tell you what we've found and send you a written quote for the extra parts or work.
We won't charge you for extra work you haven't approved. You can approve or decline extra parts on your job's status page, or in writing by email.
If you decline extra work we believe is needed for the engine to run reliably, we may not be able to complete the rebuild, or we may only be able to complete it without warranty. We'll explain this before you decide.
Quotes are valid for 14 days unless we say otherwise, as parts prices change.
Bookings are made through our online booking form. When you book, you confirm you've read the Engine Rebuild Process and the Warranty Policy. We record the date and time you accept them.
When you book online we take a booking deposit by card through Revolut. The amount is shown on the booking form before you pay, and your booking is confirmed once it's paid. The deposit comes off your final invoice.
The deposit is fully refundable if you cancel before we order parts for your job. Once parts are ordered, the cancellation terms below apply.
In some cases we can waive the deposit. To ask, email [email protected] before you book and we'll send you a deposit waiver code if we can.
You can cancel a booking at any time by emailing [email protected]. If you cancel, we'll refund your deposit, less:
the cost of any parts we've ordered for you that we can't return to the supplier, or the supplier's restocking charge if we can; and
a fair charge for any work we've already done, such as stripping and inspecting the engine.
We'll show you how we've worked this out. Any parts you've paid for are yours to take.
If you cancel after the engine has been stripped, it will be returned to you in parts unless you pay for it to be reassembled.
If we don't hear from you after a booking, we'll follow up by email. If we still don't hear back within 72 hours, the booking may be closed. You're welcome to book again.
We may decline or cancel a job, for example if the engine isn't one we can rebuild reliably or parts aren't available. If we cancel, we'll refund anything you've paid for work we haven't done.
Engines are delivered to us by appointment. Please arrange delivery in advance so someone is here to receive it.
Please tell us everything you know about the engine's history and the fault: symptoms, warning lights, previous repairs, oil and coolant loss, and whether it has ever been remapped. Issues you don't tell us about can affect the warranty.
Tell us what's being delivered with the engine (for example turbo, injectors, sensors, brackets or wiring). We photograph the engine and record what arrives with it.
The cost of getting the engine to us and back is yours, unless we've agreed otherwise in writing.
Typical timeframes are about 14 working days for parts to arrive and then 7 to 14 working days for the rebuild. These are estimates, not guarantees. Jobs can take longer because of parts backorders, shipping delays, machine shop workload or damage we find once the engine is stripped. We'll keep you updated if anything changes.
Any completion date we give is our best estimate at the time. Unless we've agreed a fixed date with you in writing, we're not responsible for costs caused by delays, such as hire cars or lost earnings.
You can check your job at any time on our job status page using your registration or engine reference and the email address you booked with. We also email you when the status changes.
Progress photos of the rebuild are available to the person who made the booking.
Anything important, such as a quote for extra work or a change to the price, will be confirmed in writing (on the status page or by email). Our WhatsApp line uses an automated assistant for general questions. Its replies are for information only and don't change these terms or the warranty.
When your engine is ready, we'll let you know by email and on the status page. Collection is by appointment.
Before release, you'll be asked to read and sign our handover pack. It covers the run-in procedure, the oil change schedule and how to make a warranty claim. The engine won't be released until the handover is signed.
The warranty period starts on the collection date.
If you ask us to leave the engine for collection outside our opening hours, it will be left in our secured yard and the access details given only to you. Once it has been left there at your request, it is your responsibility.
Please collect within 14 days of being told it's ready. After that, we may charge a reasonable daily storage fee. We'll always tell you in writing, with the daily rate, before any storage charge starts.
Because we don't fit engines, the person or garage who fits it is responsible for the fitting. A rebuilt engine is only as good as the way it's installed, so please make sure your installer:
fills it with new oil of the correct specification and fits a new oil filter;
primes the oil system before the first start;
flushes and refills the cooling system with the correct coolant, and checks there are no leaks;
checks the turbo (if fitted), its oil feed and return lines, the intercooler and the intake for debris or oil left over from the old engine's failure; and
fits any parts we've said need replacing.
Failures of the old engine often leave metal or debris in oil coolers, turbos and pipework. If these aren't cleaned or replaced, they can damage the new engine. We aren't responsible for faults caused by how the engine was fitted, or by parts that weren't part of our rebuild. If you're unsure about anything, ask us before fitting.
Our rebuilds come with a written warranty on the internal engine parts we've replaced. The full terms are on our Engine Rebuild Warranty page, and the version you accepted is the one that applies to your job. In short:
Standard warranty: 3 months or 5,000 km from collection, whichever comes first. Extended warranty (if bought): 6 months or 10,000 km.
You must follow the run-in procedure and complete the required oil changes: one before 500 km and another before 1,500 km from collection. You must upload proof on our Warranty Compliance page.
Any ECU remap or software modification voids the warranty.
External parts are not covered, including turbos, injectors, fuel pumps, sensors, water pumps, clutches and the exhaust. Faults caused by fitting, misuse, lack of servicing or parts we didn't supply are also not covered.
To claim, stop driving and report the fault straight away through our Warranty Claim Portal or by email to [email protected]. Phone calls and WhatsApp messages aren't treated as a claim.
Don't let anyone else open up or repair the engine before we've inspected it. We can't cover repairs we haven't authorised.
Transport to and from us for a warranty inspection is at your cost.
If you're a consumer, you also keep your legal rights if the work wasn't carried out with reasonable care and skill, whether or not the warranty applies.
When you place an order, we'll send you an email to confirm we've received it. The contract is made when we confirm we've accepted your order or when we dispatch or make the item ready for collection, whichever happens first.
We try to make sure prices and descriptions are accurate. If we find an obvious pricing mistake, we'll contact you before we go ahead, and you can cancel for a full refund.
If an item turns out to be out of stock after you've paid, we'll offer you an alternative or refund you in full.
Please check the item fits your vehicle before ordering, using the engine code and part numbers. We're happy to help you check if you send us your registration or engine code before you order.
Exchange units
Some engines and parts are sold on an exchange basis. Where this applies, the listing will show the exchange surcharge and what condition your old unit needs to be in when it's returned. The surcharge is refunded once we've received and checked your old unit.
Delivery and collection
Delivery charges and estimated delivery times are shown before you pay, or we'll agree them with you. Items can also be collected by appointment. Please check the item when it arrives and tell us within 48 hours about any damage in transit, with photos.
Your right to cancel an online order (consumers)
If you're a consumer buying online or by phone, you can cancel within 14 days of receiving the goods without giving a reason. Email [email protected] with your order number to cancel.
You then have 14 days to return the goods to us. Unless we've agreed otherwise, you pay the cost of returning them. Large items such as engines may need to be returned by courier or pallet service.
We'll refund the price and the standard delivery cost within 14 days of getting the goods back (or of you showing proof you've sent them back, if that's sooner), using the same payment method.
Goods must not be fitted or used. You can handle them as you would in a shop to check them, but we may reduce the refund if their value has gone down because they were handled more than that, for example by being fitted, filled with oil or damaged.
The right to cancel doesn't apply to items made or built to your own specification, or clearly personalised for you.
It also doesn't apply once a service (such as a remap or a rebuild) has been fully carried out, if you asked us to start it within the cancellation period and accepted that you'd lose the right to cancel once it was done. If you cancel a service partway through, you pay for the part already done.
Faulty or wrong items
If an item is faulty, not as described or not what you ordered, tell us as soon as you can. Don't fit an item you think is faulty. We'll repair, replace or refund it in line with your legal rights, and pay reasonable return costs for faulty or wrong items.
You confirm that you own the vehicle, or have the owner's permission to modify it.
It's your responsibility to tell your insurer about any change to the engine's software, and to make sure the vehicle stays roadworthy and legal for road use and the NCT.
Power and torque figures we give are typical results, not guarantees. Results depend on the condition of the vehicle.
A remap increases the load on the engine, turbo, clutch and gearbox. We're not responsible for wear or failure of parts that were already worn or weak before the remap.
A remap voids the warranty on any engine we've rebuilt.
We may decline a remap if we think the vehicle isn't in a fit condition for it.
We take reasonable care of engines, parts and vehicles while they're with us, and keep them on secured premises.
Please don't leave personal belongings with an engine or in a vehicle. We can't accept responsibility for items we didn't know were there.
We keep the old parts we've replaced for 30 days after the job is collected, in case you want to see them or there's a question about the work. After that we recycle or dispose of them, unless you've asked to take them.
15.Garages and agents booking for someone else Back to top
If a garage, dealer or other person books a job with us for someone else, our contract is with whoever made the booking. That person or business:
is responsible for paying our invoice;
receives the job updates, status page access and progress photos; and
is responsible for passing on the warranty terms and handover pack to the vehicle owner, and for making any warranty claim through us.
We're happy to deal with the vehicle owner directly if the person who booked agrees.
We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill.
We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for loss caused by things outside our control, such as supplier delays, courier problems or severe weather.
We're not responsible for indirect losses such as car hire, travel costs, loss of earnings or loss of business, unless the law says we must be.
For business customers, our total liability for any job or order is limited to the price paid for it, except where the law doesn't allow this.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. For consumers, it doesn't affect your statutory rights.
We photograph engines and parts on arrival and during the rebuild, as a record of their condition and the work done. These photos may be used if there's a question about the job or a warranty claim.
Progress photos shared with you are watermarked and for your own use.
We may use photos of engines and parts to show our work, for example on our website or social media. We never show registration numbers or personal details. If you'd rather we didn't use photos of your job, just tell us.
How we handle your personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
If you're unhappy with anything, please email [email protected] with your registration or order number and what's gone wrong. We'll reply within 5 working days and try to put it right.
If we can't resolve it, consumers can get information about their rights from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission at ccpc.ie. Claims up to €2,000 can be made through the Small Claims procedure of the District Court.
We may update these terms from time to time. The version and date at the top of this page show when they last changed. The terms that apply to your job or order are the ones in place when you booked or ordered, unless we both agree otherwise in writing.
No verbal statement, phone call or message changes these terms. Any change has to be agreed in writing.
If a court decides part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
These terms are governed by Irish law, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction. If you're a consumer living elsewhere in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country.
